Sold his first gag cartoon to The Bulletin, Went to Sydney and got a job lettering the colour Walt Disney comics. Later he moved to Melbourne. While working for an advertising agency produced Brigette comic strip for the rock and teen paper Go set. Brigette went national, syndicated to Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, while also working with maverick editor Peter Steedman of The Age?s Broadside on a strip called Fabula which caused the magazine to be repulped because they?d shown the mythical Prime Minister John Grey dusting his office. ( It ?s not permissible to show the Prime Minister in a subservient position.) Gerald and Peter worked it out that it is against the law to show the Prime Minister doing something useful. In the seventies Gerald revived Australian adventure comic books with Vampire! Brainmaster and Vixen, Fire Fang and the all colour Shock Raider. He was approached by an editor of the Sydney Sun Herald in early 1980 to revive Brigette, it was the paper?s highest paid comic feature at the time.It ran until the ?81 recession hit. Gerald found himself too busy with graphic work until the market for comic books improved. He published his next 1990?s titles in Australia and the U.S.A. He still works in freelance graphics and cartooning. He has won the National Cartoon of the Year Award at Coffs Harbour ?92, First prize Special Award, ?Sydney Olympics? ?99 Merit Award ?99
